What Rules of Thirds?
The basic principle behind the rule of thirds is to imagine the image into three (both horizontally and vertically) so you have 9 parts. As follows:
When you take a picture, imagine in the mind, you see the grid when you shoot. With the grid in mind 'the rules of thirds' now identifies four important parts of the image that you should consider placing points of interest in as you frame your picture

Keeping in mind the rules of thirds when you edit your photos in the future. Post production editing tools today have good tools for cropping and reframing images so they fit within the rules. Experiment with some of your old pictures to see what the impact might be on your photo.
